Always a good time. The annual St. Thomas More Fall Festival is scheduled for this weekend, beginning Friday.
It’s an event designed for the entire family. The fun begins tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. and concludes on Sunday at 5 p.m.
A family can bring their children to ride plenty of fair rides. Teens can also enjoy age-related fair rides. On the church grounds there will be kiddie games and activities.
The fair ride armbands are priced at $20 for a one 4-hour period. Friday fair rides run from 6 to 10 p.m., from noon until 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, fair rides run from noon until 4 p.m.
There’s always plenty of different foods to enjoy. That’s why I go... Ha.ha.
Gumbo is a tradition of the Fest. It’s sold inside the church’s social hall all day and evening Saturday and all day on Sunday. When I think of all the past years I met up with my dad inside the church hall and we ate gumbo together; and I now treasure all the fond memories of eating gumbo. It was sort of our tradition. My daddy would always call me ahead of time to remind me of the gumbo at the Fall Festival, (Like I didn’t know, I work at the newspaper) haha...Of course, I never disppointed him, even if I wasn’t hungry for gumbo!
Those of you who enjoy other foods, the festival has plenty to offer including, seafood, smoked house hamburgers, funnel cakes, hot dogs, nachos, fries and much more.
Don’t forget you and your family can play games of bingo inside the church hall. Bingo games are set for 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday and again from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday. There will also be a live auction from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and a grand raffle at 4 p.m. Sunday.
A silent auction will be held from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday and again Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
If you have a sweet tooth like myself, inside the church hall there will be plenty of different sweets to choose from and purchase. There will also be frozen homemade casseroles to purchase.
On Sunday those that love to exercise get up early and join the 1 mile fun walk/5K run at 8 a.m. This event will begin at the grounds of LSUE.
