We’re all in this together. That may be comforting, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are those among us who are in great need. When the working poor - ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constraint, Employed) is, in normal times, one emergency away from a financial crisis, we can bet that during the COVID-19 crisis, the situation is even worse.
Many of our neighbors suddenly find themselves in need of neighborly care. To help meet these needs, the COVID-19 Community Relief Fund is our response for a rapidly deployment of resources to community-based organizations tackling the effects of the coronavirus outbreak in our communtiy.
The Relief Fund has been established to provide food, supplies, relief for college students, health and wellness initiatives to the at-risk and vulnerable, safe-care packages to the elderly who are sheltering in place, and masks, hand sanitizers, and gloves to businesses and their customers.
Rapid response operating grants will help fund human services organizations that have deep roots in the community and strong experience working with vulnerable populations. While funds will not be given directly to individuals, by supporting these organizations we will ensure neighbors receive the help they need whenever possible.
Your help is urgently needed. This is a time to rise as one to help our neighbors in need. This is a time to put “love thy neighbor” into action. This is a time to LIVE UNITED.
Your gift to the Response Fund will help our community respond to both the immediate needs and to the long term needs that will arise from this crisis. Whatever you can give will make a significant impact in our St. Landry and Evangeline Parish communities.
Donate to the fund at uwsle.org.
