On Tuesday, shortly after 7:30 a.m., troopers with the Louisiana State Police Troop I were notified of a two-vehicle hit-and run fatality crash involving a motorized bicycle on La. 3149 near its intersection with La. 104 in Evangeline Parish.
The crash claimed the life of 55-year-old Errol Deville of Eunice.
The preliminary investigation revealed Deville was traveling north on La. 3149 while riding a motorized bicycle. At the same time, an unknown vehicle was also traveling north on La. 3149. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the rear of the bicycle in the northbound lane and fled the scene without calling for assistance or rendering aid.
Deville, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Troopers are working to identify the vehicle and its driver and urge anyone with information related to this crash or who may have been in the area to contact Louisiana State Police Troop I at 337-262-5880.
