Eunice Mardi Gras Run still planned

The Eunice Courir de Mardi Gras will take place although on a smaller scale than previous years, Captain Pat Frey said. Frey confirmed the run following a number of Mardi Gras event cancellations. “We are going to go by the governor’s guidelines, so we only going to to have a 150 runners,” he said.

Eunice Mardi Gras decision pending

No decision has been made about holding the Mardi Gras in downtown Eunice, but the Courir de Mardi Gras is planned. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot says whether Mardi Gras is celebrated here is a sensitive decision.

Eunice Police report Mardi Gras generally quiet crime-wise

The Mardi Gras party in Eunice went by relatively free of any serious crime, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said. There were a couple of incidents, he said. Two women got into a scrap, an intoxicated driver was involved in a hit and run Saturday and there was fight after 9 p.m. Tuesday, he said.

Runners leave a wake of mayhem

The first chicken offered to the Eunice Courir de Mardi Gras was tossed into the air by Dale Soileau and from there the run was on. That chicken took off tailed by a scattered gang of colorful human runners around and around the north side of the Northwest Community Center at about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Eunice throws a 5-day party

For five days thousands of people — there is no exact count — turned downtown Eunice into a party that ended with a grand finale of a parade Tuesday afternoon. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said, “Overall, I think it was a pretty fun Mardi Gras and it was safe.
