School officials may get price cut from Council

Faced with a $1,125 monthly charge to use St. Landry Parish property in Opelousas, two School Board officials were back in front of the Parish Council requesting a price cut.
The St. Landry Parish School Board began administering the Head Start program in September 2018.
The School Board began administering the Head Start program in the parish in September with a $6.8 million budget for the 10 months remaining in the fiscal year.
The site, owned by the parish, is on West Martin Luther King Extension, adjoining the parish airport, in Opelousas.

School panel reverses course for Head Start pay raise

St. Landry Parish Head Start employees will receive a 2.6 percent cost of living increase instead of a $700 lump sum payment.
The 2.6 percent increase was approved by the School Board’s Finance Committee on Wednesday. Last month, the full Board approved a December $700 payment recommended by the administration.
The school system was to receive about $125,000 to pay for a cost of living increase for each of about 140 workers.

Head Start control moving to St. Landry Parish School Board

The hiring process continued this week for Head Start jobs as the 10-center pre-school system is to transition to the control of the St. Landry Parish School Board.
The school system’s control begins Saturday and it reopened almost every job associated with Head Start.
At Monday’s School Board committee meetings it was noted that acting Head Start director June Inhern was interviewing the job candidates.
The Head Start centers will employ 166 people from aides to center directors, down from more than 200 employed last year.

St. Landry Parish School Board to operate Head Start in parish
The St. Landry Parish School Board will assume control of the Head Start programs in the parish on Sept. 1.
And on Thursday School Board members started learning the nuts and bolts of how they are to govern the Head Start and Early Head Start programs operated at 10 centers in the parish.
