Basile, Jays split disitrict games

BASILE – The Bearcats jumped out to a 19-8 first quarter run as Basile rolled to a 71-50 win over the St. Edmund Blue Jays.
Bubba Reed pushed in seven points for the Bearcats (8-17, 2-3) in the first period.
Stephan Thibodeaux scored four points for the Jays (2-20, 0-6).
The Bearcats had a 19-9 second-quarter surge to take a 38-17 advantage into the locker room.
Reed added seven more points for the Bearcats, while Rashawn Murphy scored six points in the period.
Carter Andrus and Alex Dupre both hit treys for the Jays.
The two offenses came alive in the third period as Basile outscored tSt. Edmund 21-18.
Austin Gradney scored 10 poinst for the Jays, while Murphy scored five points for the Bearcats.
St. Edmund outscored Basile 15-12 in the final period, led by 11 points from Andrus.
Basile’s Rashad Murphy scored four points in the quarter to finish with nine points.
Reed led Basile with 16 points, while Rashawn Murphy added 15 points.
Andrus led St. Edmund with 17 points, Gradney chipped in 11 points and Dupre added nine points.

St. Ed’s 53, Basile 44
The St. Edmund Lady Jays remained in the hunt for a playoff spot with a 53-44 win over Basile.
Basile opened the game with an 18-13 lead, aided by 10 points from Ne’Dasha Adams.
Allison Lafleur scored six points to keep the Lady Jays close.
St. Edmund outscored the Lady Bearcats 8-6 in tbe second quarter to close the gap to 24-21 at the break as Lafleur chipped in six points.
The Lady Jays took the game over in the second half, begun with a 12-7 run in third period.
Lafleur chipped in four more points, while Katheryn Giles pushed in five points for the Lady Cats.
The two offenses exploded in the final period as St. Edmund outscored Basile 20-13.
Abby Miller scored seven points for the Lady Jays to finish with nine points.
Gabby Fontenot hit three free throws to finish with 10 points.
Lafleur led the Lady Jays with 17 points.
Giles led Basile with 14 points, while Adams added 13 points.
No. 10 St. Edmund (8-14, 2-4) visits Catholic High of Pointe Coupee Tuesday.
Basile (8-15, 1-4) travels to North Central Friday.
