Blue Jays defeat Lady Demons

The Lady Jays used a balanced scoring offense as St. Edmund grabbed a 54-39 non-district win over the Mamou Lady Demons.
St. Edmund opened with a 12-7 first quarter lead, aided by six points by Savannah DeVillier and a bucket each from Rebecca Benoit, Mary Beth Lafleur and Tanzy Miller.
B. Thibodeaux sparked Mamou’s first quarter with five points.
St. Edmund pushed ahead 27-20 at the break with a 15-10 second quarter run as DeVillier and Julia Zaunbrecher both scored four points for the Lady Jays.
Thibodeaux continued to help keep Mamou in the game with seven points in the second frame.
The Lady Jays opened the second half with a 17-4 surge as St. Ed’s began to pull away from Mamou, 44-24.
Lafleur pushed in seven points, Kinsley Marcantel added two three-pointers and Benoit chipped in four points in the third frame for the Lady Jays.
K. Rider drilled a trey and Thibodeaux added a free throw for the only points in the period for the Lady Demons.
Trailing by 20 points heading into the final period, Mamou responded 15 points in the fourth quarter but the Lady Demons could only close the margin to 15 points.
DeVillier pushed in six points in the period to finish with 16 points. Lafleur’s two free throws in the quarter helped her contribute 11 points.
Marcantel added a fourth quarter bucket to finish with eight points as did Benoit.
Rider and Thibodeaux both scored five points in the quarter for Mamou to finish as the only Lady Demons to finish in double figures.
Thibodeaux led Mamou with 18 points, while Rider contributed 11 points in the loss.
St. Edmund (6-7) will entertain Highland Baptist (13-3) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in its final non-district contest.

Mamou 46, SEH 35
In boy’s action, the Green Demons exploded for a 17-5 second quarter run as Mamou earned a 46-35 win over St. Edmund.
The Blue Jays opened with a slim 9-7 first quarter advantage, aided by five points from Kieran Davis and a trey by Henry Brown.
D.J. Papillion led Mamou in the period with three free throws, while Kyrin Broussard and Kyrian Green each added a bucket.
The strong second period for Mamou was sparked by seven points from Green along with treys by Jalon Bradley and Trivon Gallow.
Davis pushed in three points and a bucket by Easton Coleman accounted for the Jays’ five points in the period.
St. Edmund battled for an 8-8 tie in the third period as the Blue Jays fought to stay in the game, trailing 32-22 as the contest moved to the final quarter.
Brown pushed in two buckets and Davis added four free throws in the third frame for the Jays.
Green, Brian Thomas and Broussard scored two points each in the quarter to help Mamou maintain its comfortable lead.
The Green Demons outscored St. Edmund 14-13 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Davis pushed in four points in the period to lead the Jays with 16 points, while Brown drained two treys to finish with 13 points.
Damarcus Wilson pushed in five of his seven points in the period.
Green hit three free throws in the quarter to lead the Demons with 14 points on the night.
St. Edmund (3-6) faces Highland Baptist (1-5) Tuesday before visiting Pickering on Thursday.

Basile 73, Eunice 57
BASILE – The Lady Bobcats fell to 3-7 on the season as the Basile Lady Bearcats handed Eunice a 73-57 non-district loss.
The two teams battled early as Basile opened with a 20-16 lead, sparked by six points from Ryah Ashford along with five points each by Frida Alvarez and Lainey Soileau.
Madison Freeman pushed in eight points to help keep the Lady Cats close, while Shanyia Toussaint added five points in the period.
Eunice fought for an 11-11 tie in the second quarter, but Basile took a 31-27 lead into the locker room.
Toussaint pushed in five more points including her second trey of the game, while Olivia Thibdodeaux, Harmony Jason and Freeman all scored a bucket for the Lady Cats.
Alveraz scored four points to lead the Lady Bearcats in the frame.
Basile’s Soileau exploded for 14 points in the third period to help spark the Lady Bearcats’s 19-12 run.
Toussaint pushed in seven points for the Lady Cats, while Leah Walker added a three pointer and Freeman chipped in a bucket to help the Eunice offense.
Basile sealed the win with a 23-18 fourth quarter run, aided by eight points each from Soileau and Alvarez.
Walker pushed in six points in the period to finish with 11 points, while Freeman contributed four points to finish with 16 points.
Toussaint added her fourth trey in the final quarter to lead the Lady Cats with 20 points.
Eunice returns home on Tuesday to take on rival Crowley (5-7). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
