Blue Jays face familiar opponent in playoff opener

The St. Edmund Blue Jays face a familiar opponent in the opening round of the 2018 LHSAA football playoffs as they host Catholic of Pointe Coupee on Friday.
The Hornets and the Blue Jays have scrimmaged each in the spring, so both teams know each other well.
Blue Jay head coach Andy Hargroder believes that his team is ready for the challenge of the playoffs after the Blue Jays finished the regular season with a record of 9-1. Catholic of Pointe Coupee finished their regular season with a 7-2 record. Hargroder felt that the Hornets improved over the season went on. “They played Port Barre, Ascension Episcopal, and Opelousas Catholic, so they were challenged by some solid teams.”
The Blue Jays were led on offense by quarterback Brad Miller, who gained 1293 yards rushing on 144 attempts, averaging 8.4 per carry and scoring 16 touchdowns in 10 games. Miller also completed 9 of 37 passes on the season for 104 yards. Peyton Marcantel led the Blue Jays in receptions with five for 51 yards. Jack Miller rushed for 535 yards on 39 rushes and 10 touchdowns. Brock Bieber averaged 6.9 yards per carry with five touchdowns for the Blue Jays.
Top players for Coach David Simoneaux’s Hornets include Andrew Grezaffi, a 5-11, 185 senior who plays running back and cornerback. Brock Bullara is another senior running back. Bullara also plays Middle Linebacker. Senior Karson Moore (6-1, 170) plays wide receiver and cornerback for the Hornets. Junior Nick Carriere (5-11, 175) plays outside linebacker. Senior Ethan Elliott (6-1, 149) works at wide receiver and cornerback. Senior Sammy Hymel plays guard on offense and nose guard on defense at 5-7, 235 pounds. Collin Grezaffi (5-8, 170) is a junior fullback and outside linebacker.
