Bobcats clip Gents

After being beaten by a 21-1 margin earlier in the week by the Eunice Bobcats, the Crowley Gents gave the Bobcats all they could handle in a baseball game played Thursday at Bobcat Field.
The Gents took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and the Bobcats were forced to rally to overcome the early lead by scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Crowley fought back in the top of the fourth inning, scoring three runs to tie the game at 7-7.
The Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-7 lead on a run-scoring single off the bat of Dylan Darbonne.
But the Gents managed to tie the game at 8-8 with a run in the sixth inning on a single by Randy Fontenot.
The Bobcats’ Grant Fontenot was hit by a pitch to give the Cats a scoring chance in the bottom of the sixth. Fontenot stole second base and advanced to third on a groudout off the bat of Austin Phillips.
Tyler Darbonne’s pop fly into shallow left field was caught, but Fontenot was able to scamper home with the game-winning run to give the Bobcats a 9-8 victory.
Top hitters for the Gents were Randy Hanks with three singles and two runs scored and Grant Russel with a single and two RBI. Randy Fontenot had three singles and one RBI.
Top hitters for the Bobcats were Grant Fontenot with a single, a double and two RBI and three runs scored.
Tyler Darbonne had a double and a RBI.
