Bobcats cruise to 19-6 win

CROWLEY – The Eunice High Bobcats improved their season record to 13-6 with a 19-6 victory over the Crowley High Gents in District 5-3A play at Miller Stadium.
The win gives the coach Scott Phillips’ Bobcats a sweep of the two-game series.
The Bobcats wasted no time in taking the lead in the top of the first inning as Luke Andrepont and Austin Phillips drew walks off Crowley pitcher Randy Hanks.
A single by Josh Youngblood scored Andrepont before Phillips scored on a groundout off the bat of Tyler Darbonne for a 2-0 lead.
Darbonne, the starting pitcher for the Bobcats set down the Gents in order in the bottom of the first by striking out all three batters.
The Bobcats continued to add to their lead in the top of the second inning. Seth Venable led off the inning with a single and stole second to open the inning.
J.C. Lejeune drove home Venable with a single, with Lejeune advancing to second on a throw to home.
Ian George singled to score Lejeune to give the Cats a 6-0 lead.
The inning continued after Andrepont was retired, with Phillips drawing another walk from Hanks.
Youngblood singled to score George and Jayden Brasseaux added another run with a sacrifice fly. Grant Fontenot was hit by a pitch and later scored on a two-run double.
Lejeune’s single brought home Venable to give the Cats a 10-0 lead.
Darbonne’s pitching kept the Gents off the scoreboard in the second and third innings.
He recorded three strikeouts in the second and added two more strikeouts in the third.
Trevor Doucet was the lone Crowley (2-17, 0-2) player to put the ball in play on a grounder to first baseman Trae Brasseaux.
Darbonne finished his stint on the mound after three innings, allowing no hits and striking out eight.
Jayden Brasseaux relieved Darbonne and faced the top of the Crowley order in the fourth inning.
Christian Stafford reached on an error, and after one out, Stafford scored on a double by Alex Duhon.
Duhon later scored on another Eunice error before Brasseaux retired the side.
Austin Phillips worked the final two innings for the Cats, allowing two earned runs in the fifth before retiring the side in order in the sixth inning to end the game.
Top hitters for the Bobcats included Youngblood, who had three hits and three RBI, and Venable, who drove in two runs with three hits.
Lejeune drove in three runs with three hits.
Eunice will entertain district rival Church Point 6 p.m. Monday.
