Bobcats defeat Gators

The Eunice Bobcats scored five runs in the first inning on their way to a 14-4 victory over the Beau Chene Gators in baseball action Thursday at the LSU-Eunice Tournament.
With one out in the first inning and Jaheim Mitchell on first base, Grant Fontenot drove a pitch into right-center field for a triple. Tyler Darbonne singled to score Fontenot before Luke Andrepont singled to continue the inning. Dylan Darbonne drew a walk and Deondre Courville followed with a run-scoring single to give the Cats a 5-0 lead.
Mitchell, the starting pitcher for the Cats, shut the Gators down in the first inning, but the Gators managed to score four runs in the second inning to cut the Eunice lead to 5-4.
The Bobcats responded in the third inning with three runs of their own as Austin Phillips doubled and Tyler Darbonne tripled to highlight the inning. Andrepont added run-scoring single to extend the Eunice lead to 8-4. Mitchell retired the Gators in order in the third inning and shutout the Gators in the fourth inning.
The Bobcat offense exploded in the fifth inninig, scoring six runs highlighted by consecutive singles off the bats of Fontenot, Tyler Darbonne, Andrepont before Dylan Darbonne was hit by a pitch. Courville followed with a single and Rafael Guillory drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Zach Suire singled and Braiden Rider added a sacrifice fly to give the Cats a 14-4 advantage.
Seth Deshotel relieved Mitchell in the fifth inning and held the Gators scoreless to complete the Bobcat victory.
