Bobcats fall to AHS Rams

The Eunice High Bobcats took an early lead over the visiting Rams Tuesday but Acadinana High recovered for a 17-4 win at Bobcat Field.
Eunice High starting pitcher Jadon Brasseaux allowed single runs in the first and second inning but his teammates scored two runs in the second inning and two more in the third to hold a 4-2 lead heading into the fourth inning.
In the second inning, the Cats took advantage of four consecutive walks by Rams starter Matt Delcambre score two runs. In the third inning, the Bobcats opened the inning against reliever JuJuan Franklin with a single by Austin Phillips and a run-scoring double by Tyler Darbonne.
Cade Richard advanced Darbonne to third base with a sacrifice bunt and Christian Taylor would drive home Darbonne with a single.
Brasseaux kept the Rams from scoring in the third, but he ran into problems in the fourth inning after retiring the first two batters.
Two walks and two hit batsmen produced one run before Franklin drove a home run over the left-center field fence for a grand slam and a 7-4 lead.
The Bobcats never recovered as three relief pitchers came on for the Bobcats, but the Rams added three more runs in the fifth inning and seven more in the sixth inning on their way to a 17-4 victory.
The Bobcats, now 5-8 on the season will open District 5-3A at Pine Prairie.

Eunice 18, Mamou 9
The Bobcats used a six-run first inning outburst to take an early lead against Mamou then held off a couple of comeback runs by the Demons to claim an 18-9 victory in Friday action at the John R. Young Chevrolet/Frey Industries Baseball Tournament at Bobcat Field.
The Green Demons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Ronnie McBride singled and scored on a run-scoring single by Austin Fontenot.
The Bobcats responded in the bottom of the inning. Gunner Fontenot singled and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Austin Phillips.
Fontenot would score when Tyler Darbonne reached on an error.
Darbonne later scored on a single by Cade Richard.
Another Mamou error allowed Christian Taylor to reach base, leading to both he and Richard to score on a Zac Guillory single.
Jonas Granger followed with a double and Josh Youngblood drove in the final run with a groundout for a 6-1 lead.
The Demons would bounce back with four runs in the second inning thanks to hits by Zack Morein, Keegan Reed, and Austin Fontenot. Darbonne, the Eunice starting pitcher, would be forced to leave the mound due to an injury.
Granger came on as a reliever to finish the inning with the Cats holding on to a 6-5 lead.
The Bobcats would leave the bases loaded in the third and the Demons would take advantage to gain a 9-6 lead with a four-run frame.
But the Bobcats responded with a seven run bottom of the fourth to reclaim the lead at 13-9.
A two-run single by Phillips, along with three errors and seven walks by the Demons aided the Eunice comeback.
The Bobcats added three additional runs in the fifth inning, led by Jay Pitre’s two-run double. Two more runs scored in the sixth inning as the Cats claimed the victory.
