Bobcats fall in Jennings tourney

JENNINGS – The Eunice High Bobcats lost close decisions to Iowa and Barbe here this past week at the Jennings High School Tournament.
The Bobcats jumped to a 15-5 lead over Iowa at the end of the first quarter. Brandon Ndubueze and Avery Lee led the Bobcats with six and five points, respectively.
The game changed in the second quarter, though, with the Yellowjackets outscoring the Bobcats by a 15-4 margin to give Iowa a 20-19 edge at halftime. Jaren Dugas had a three-point field goal and Andre Sam scored six points to lead the way for the Yellowjackets in the second quarter.
The Bobcats managed just two field goals in that quarter thanks to Georrein Dupre and Ndubueze.
The Bobcats would bounce back in the third quarter, outscoring Iowa by a 14-12 margin to enter the fourth quarter trailing by just one point. Ndubueze and Dupre topped the Cats with four points apiece in the third quarter, while Sam topped Iowa with four points.
The Yellowjackets broke open the close game in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats by a 23-14 margin to capture the victory by a 55-47 margin. Darius Daniels led the way for Iowa by scoring eight points in the final quarter. Sam added five points.
Ndubueze had six points in the fourth quarter to lead Eunice High. Ndubueze led all scorers in the game with 18 points. Lee and Dupre finished with seven and six points, respectively, for the Cats.
Sam topped the scoring for Iowa with 16 poiints. Daniels and Cole Fleming contributed 10 points apiece for the Yellowjackets.
On Wednesday, against the Barbe Bucs, the Bobcats got off to a terrific start by outscoring Barbe 20-10 in the first quarter. Ndubueze had seven points to lead the way for the Cats.
The Bobcats continued their good play in the second quarter, extending their lead to 34-17 at the half. Ndubueze had seven points and Carlin Vigers added five to pace the Bobcats in the second quarter.
The game changed in the third quarter as the Bucs caught fire to outscore the Cats by a 23-6 margin and tie the game at 40-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bucs would continue their momentum in the final quarter, outscoring the Bobcats by a 20-13 margin to earn a 60-53 victory.
Ndubueze finished as the top scorer for the Bobcats with 22 points. Georrein Dupre and Carlin Vigers had nine points apiece. Malik Poullard finished with five points.
The Bobcats will continue non-district play on Tuesday when they face Iowa in the Lake Arthur Tournament.
Northside 79, EHS 37
LAFAYETTE – The game between the Eunice High Lady Bobcats and the Northside High Lady Vikings looked to be a competitive match in the opening quarter in basketball action.
The Lady Cats trailed by only one point at 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, thanks in large part to nine point effort by Stacie White.
But the Lady Vikings would clamp down on White in the second quarter, holding her to just one three-point field goal, while the Lady Vikings would score 26 points to take a 41-25 lead at the halftime break.
Brittney Smith led the scoring for Northside in the second quarter with 11 points, while Johnae Thomas chipped in with eight points.
Leah Walker would top the Lady Cats in the second quarter with two field goals for four points.
Northside put the game away in the third quarter as Thomas would lead a 23-point effort for the Lady Vikings with nine points.
Smith would add six points and Ashley Prejean would chip in with five points as Northside pulled away to take a 64-33 lead after three quarters.
The Lady Vikings would outscore the Lady Cats 15-4 in the final quarter to claim a 79-37 victory.
White topped the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 18 points.
Shania Toussaint also hit the double-figure mark with 11 points.
Walker had four points for the Lady Cats.
