Bobcats go 2-1 in McNeese tourney

LAKE CHARLES – The Eunice Bobcats finished play at McNeese with a 2-1 record, losing on Friday to South Beauregard before defeating the DeRidder Dragons later on Friday and defeating the Legends 15, a team from the Lafayette area on Saturday.
Against South Beauregard, Eunice starting pitcher Grant Fontenot shutout the Knights over the first four innings.
The Bobcat offense gave Fontenot some help in the third inning on a double by Braiden Rider, who later advanced to score to give the Cats a 1-0 lead.
The Cats had an opportunity to extend their lead when Jaheim Mitchell doubled, but he was unable to advance.
The Knights tied the game with a run in the fifth inning and added the winning run in the seventh inning.
In his five innings of work, Fontenot gave up one run and two hits. He walked two and struck out three.
In the game against the DeRidder Dragons, Eunice took a 1-0 lead as Luke Andrepont singled and later scored.
The Cats added another run in the second inning when Mitchell walked, stole second, and scored on an infield grounder for a 2-0 lead.
The Dragons responded in their third inning with three runs, but the Cats answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third.
Kole Grouvillia doubled to open the inning and Rider was hit by a pitch.
Andrepont drew a walk to load the bases. Fontenot drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and an error allowed the two runs to score to give the Cats a 5-2 lead.
The Cats added to their lead in the fourth inning, with Mitchell hitting a double and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dylan Darbonne.
Zack Suire’s single scored Mitchell to give the Cats a 6-4 lead.
The Cats claimed added a run in the fifth to claim the 7-4 victory.
On Saturday, Luke Andrepont shutout Legend 15 for the Bobcats, allowing only four hits as the Bobcats claimed a 5-0 victory.
The Cats opened the scoring in the second inning after Tyler Darbonne walked and Andrepont doubled.
Darbonne scored on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Darbonne. The Bobcats added four runs in the fourth inning to enjoy a 5-0 lead. Fontenot opened the inning with a single and scored on Tyler Darbonne’s triple.
Andrepont singled, stole a base, and scored on a double by Dylan Darbonne. Suire singled to score Darbonne to end the scoring.
The Metro League action concluded Wednesday night as Eunice faced Port Barre at Bobcat Field.
