Bobcats rout Raiders

Body

The Eunice Bobcats completed a two-game sweep of the Northwest Raiders in District 5-3A baseball action.
In the first game of the series, Bobcat freshman pitcher Braiden Rider limited the Raiders to one run in the first three innings of the contest.
Rider allowed just two hits and struck out four in his mound performance.
The Bobcat offense gave Rider all the support he needed by exploding for thirteen runs in the early going.
The Cats took advantage of some control problems from the Raider pitching staff as the first four batters, Luke Andrepont, Austin Phillips, Josh Youngblood, and Tyler Darbonne reached base via walks and hit by pitch to score three runs. Darbonne scored when Jayden Brasseaux singled.
Grant Fontenot, Seth Venable, John Lejeune, and Ian George continued the inning with walks before a sacrifice fly by Andrepont brought home the ninth run of the inning. The Cats continued their
scoring surge with four runs in the third inning, highlighted by Darbonne’s two-run single.
The game was ended later due to the run-rule at 13-1.
The Raiders took the lead in game two after taking advantage of a Eunice error in the third inning.
The Raiders threatened in the fourth inning as well after Rafael Guillory, the Eunice pitcher, was forced to leave the game with a shoulder issue.
Austin Phillips replaced Guillory on the mound. A single by Kel Oakley and a walk to Gabriel Hunt set up Johnny Rideau’s run-scoring single for a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats responded quickly as Brasseaux doubled and Fontenot singled him home to tie the game. The Bobcat offense responded with a big inning, led by Darbonne’s run-scoring triple, Venable’s two-run double, Lejeune’s two run double, and a run-scoring single by George. The Cats continued their assault against the Raider staff, with Youngblood’s triple that drove home three runs.
Coach Scott Phillips cleared the bench later in the game and the younger players responded, with Deandre Courville, Kole Grouvillia, Deonate Gallow, Seth Deshotel, Zac Suire, Trae Brasseaux, and Jaheim Mitchell seeing action. The game ended early with the Bobcats claiming an 18-1 victory due to the run-rule.
