Bobcats run past Spartans

The Eunice High Bobcats used a four-run third inning to take an early lead on their way to a 5-1 victory over the East Ascension Spartans in baseball action Thursday evening at Bobcat Field.
After both teams were held scoreless over the first two innings, the Bobcats would break the game open in the third inning.
With one out, Ian George was hit by a pitch and stole second base before scoring on a single by Austin Phillips.
The inning continued when Josh Youngblood drew a walk before Tyler Darbonne doubled in a run for a 2-0 lead.
Jayden Brasseaux ripped a double to plate two more runs to put the Cats on top by a 4-0 margin.
Grant Fontenot, the starting pitcher for the Bobcats, kept the Spartans in check in the early going, allowing just four hits through the first five innings.
The Bobcats added a run in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead.
With one out, Phillips walked and advanced to second base on a single by Youngblood.
Brasseaux drove in Phillips with a single to increase the Bobcat lead to 5-0.
The Spartans scored their lone run of the game in the sixth inning. Grant Griffin singled and advanced to second on an error.
Griffin moved to third base on a groundout and scored on a groundout off the bat of Cam Schexneider.
Fontenot shut down the Spartans in order in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Fontenot scattered five hits, struck out three and walked one as he improved his mound record to 3-1 on the season.
