Bulldogs, Bobcats and Jays win in jamboree

The Bulldogs, Bobcats and Blue Jays all earned wins in the 2018 Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree held Friday at St. Edmund’s stadium.
Iota’s offense was affective in the Bulldogs’ 35-15 win over the Southside Sharks.
Iota took the opening drive and quickly moved the ball down the field, aided by runs from Kollin Guillory and Luke Doucet.
Trae Rambin connected with Dawson Wallace for a 10-yard score.
Chaynery Johnson ran in the two-point conversion to give Iota an 8-0 lead with 8:26 left in the half.
After a Southside punt, the Bulldogs then mounted a nine-play drive led by stromg throws from Rambin.
Doucet capped the drive with a four-yard score and Mitchell Lege’s PAT pushed the Bulldogs up 15-0 with 3:47 remaining.
Southside’s passing attack was impressive on the Sharks’ next drive as quarterback Dillon Monette connected with Gavyrn Mendard and Matt Fontenot to move the ball inside the Iota 5.
Two plays later, Cedric McDonald scored on a 1-yard run and James Pennington ran in the two-point conversion to close the margin to 15-8 with 2:00 left in the half,
After a strong kick return by Guillory, it took the Bulldogs just three plays to score.
Rambin connected with Dawson Wallace for an 11-yarder and Doucet sealed the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run.
The two-point conversion failed, but Iota held a 21-8 advantage with 54 seconds left in the half.
Southside mounted an impressive drive to open the second half as the Sharke moved the ball 69 yards on 12 plays.
Monette found several receivers open and McDonald ran the ball to keep the drive alive.
Monettte carried the ball 10 yards to move close to the goal line and McDonald scored on a 1-yard plunge.
The Sharks scored on the two-point conversion to close the gap to 21-15 with 4:14 left in the contest.
Iota quickly responded as Tyrone Charlot raced 88 yards to the end zone on the ensuing kick.
The PAT was good as the Bulldogs led 28-15 with 3:55 left.
Iota’s defense stood tall in the closing three minutes as Mitchell Lege intercepted a pass near midfield.
Three plays later, Guillory raced 42 yards for the game’s final touchdown.
The PAT was good as the Bulldogs extended its lead to 35-15 with 1:42 left in the game.
After a pass interfernce call nullified an Iota interception, the Bulldogs still stuffed the Sharks final possession to seal the win.

Eunice 6, OC 0
The defenses dominated in the second game as Eunice held off Opelousas Catholic for a 6-0 victory.
After forcing the Vikings to punt on the game’s opening possession, the Bobcats quickly gave the ball back as the half-back pass was intercepted near midfield.
The Vikings converted a first down, but the Bobcat defense stiffened to force another OC punt.
Eunice then mounted its longest drive of the game, sparked by strong runs by Devin Richardson, Deon Ardoin and Avery Lee.
After converting on fourth down to keep the drive going, the Bobcats contiuned to move the ball inside the OC 15.
A four-yard gain by Deon Ardoin was followed by a seven-yarder by Lee.
A fumble on third down moved the Bobcats back to the OC 6 with 24 seconds left in the half.
The 16-play drive then stalled with an incomplete pass and half ended with a scoreless tie.
The Eunice offense took the second half kickoff and continued to move the ball against the Vikings.
Deon Ardoin and Lee carried the ball well along with Richardson as the Bobcats advanced to the OC 21.
But on fourth-and-three at the Viking 7, it was a pass play from Siemon Ardoin to Tyler Darbonne that resulted in the only points of the game.
The PAT failed but the Bobcats led 6-0 with 4:53 left.
Both teams were forced to punt on consecutive possessions and Vikings had one final chance to pull out the win,
But two plays later, the Bobcats stripped the ball from the OC quarterback with 22 seconds left to seal the victory.

SEH 12, ND 7
St. Edmund scored first and held on for a 12-7 win over Notre Dame in the finale,
The Blue Jays scored on the opening drive of the game, sparked by several strong runs by quarterback Brad Miller and running back Carter Lejeuene.
On fourth-and two at the Pioneer 25, Jack Miller took a pitch and raced to the end zone for a touchdown.
The PAT was wide left, but the Blue Jays led 6-0 with 6:09 left in the half.
After forcing the Notre Dame junior varsity to punt on the Pios’ first possession, St. Edmund mounted a time consuming drive.
On fourth-and-one at the Pio 44 with 1:32 remaining, Brad Miller kept the drive alive with a two-yard run and the Blue Jays ran out the first half clock holding on to a 6-0 advantage.
Both teams were forced to punt to open the second half, but the Blue Jays’ Nick Fontenot recovered a muffed Pioneer return at the Notre Dame 18.
On the very next play, Brad Miller broke through the middle of the Notre Dame defense for a touchdown.
The two-point conversion run failed, but the Jays led 12-0 with 4:28 left on the game.
After three straight incompletions to begin the next Pioneer possession, Notre Dame quarterback Parker Seilhan connected on a fourth down pass to keep the drive giong near midfield,
Two plays later, Seilhand found Peyton Menard open for a 49-yard scoring strike.
The PAT was good as Notre Dame closed the gap to 12-7 with 2:55 left in the contest.
The Blue Jays were forced to punt and the Pioneers had one last chance with 52 seconds remaining.
Sitting at their own three-yard line after Marcantel’s kick, the Pioneers converted two straight passing first downs,
But Kaden Fontenot snared an interception on the game’s final play to seal the 12-7 win for the Blue Jays.
