Bulldogs not looking past Mamou

The undefeated Iota Bulldogs (4-0) will be on the road this Friday to take on the winless Mamou Demons.
Coming off their biggest win of the season against Northwest Raiders and with a big game against Crowley set for next weekend, it would be easy for the Bulldogs to overlook the Demons, having defeated them 54-12 last season.
However, Iota coach Josh Andrus is working with his players this week to avoid having that happen.
“We’ve been telling them to remain focused on what’s right in front of us,” he said. “This week their minds should be focused on nothing but Mamou.”
With the Demons having yet to score a single point during their first four games, it’s understandable why Andrus is concerned about overconfidence.
Defensively things haven’t been too bad for Mamou (0-4). Using their five man front, the Demons held Pine Prairie to 14 points in last Friday’s game.
Mamou is led on defense by defensive end Justin Fontenot, safety Kyrain Green and linebacker Parker Granger.
The Bulldogs are coming into this week’s game rolling, with senior quarterback Trae Rambin coming of his best game of the season (two touchdown passes) and running backs Luke Doucet (165 yard) and Kollin Guillory (208 on four carries) looking dominant, this week will present big problems for the Mamou defenders.
Offensively, Andrus said the Demons will be running a double slot offense a lot but will frequently switch to the veer to utilize the running talents of quarterback Dino Desotels and backs Bernard O’Neal and Daylon Ardoin.
“They’ve been rebuilding the past couple years,” said Andrus of the Demons. “We are focused and we’re ready for Friday’s game.”
As for the Bulldogs, the meat of their District 5-3A schedule lies ahead with games against Crowley (2-2), Eunice (4-0) and defending District 5-3A champs Church Point upcoming.
“We know that district games are always tough and we take it a bit easier on the guys in practice during that time,” said Andrus. “The main thing is making sure our guys are prepared.”
Optimism in Iota is peaking after last week’s game, which the Bulldogs won much easier than expected.
“The fans I’ve spoken to were very happy with that win,” said Andrus.
Friday’s game in Mamou starts at 7 p.m.
