The Crowley Ladies banged out 21 hits, including 10 in the final two frames, to rally past Mamou, 11-7, in a contest that went eight innings Wednesday afternoon.
The victory sent the Ladies to 16-7 overall and keeps them in a tie for the league lead along with Pine Prairie at 10-1 in District 5-3A play.
The two squads went back and forth for most of the evening Wednesday before Mamou took a 7-4 advantage heading into the top of the seventh inning.
The Ladies responded with five straight hits and three runs in the seventh to tie the game.
Morgan Guidry, Sckylier Baronet and Breana Larry each logged singles to start the frame with Larry’s base hit pushing across the first run of the inning. Jaysa Marceaux then logged a two-run double to knot the score at 7-7, sending the game to extra innings.
The Ladies struck for five more hits in the eighth inning to secure the victory.
Phobee Spell sparked the rally with a leadoff single and Guidry then reached base on a catcher’s interference. Larry then came through with the decisive blow, a one-out double that plated both Spell and Guidry to put the Ladies up 9-7.
The Ladies added a pair of insurance runs after that on an RBI single by Payton Breaux and a sacrifice fly by Aliyah Woods.
Nella LaGrange took over in the circle in the bottom of the frame and sat the Lady Green Demons down in order on a pair of fly outs and a ground out to end the contest.
LaGrange only allowed three earned runs in eight innings. She surrendered seven hits, walked one and struck out three.
Crowley actually took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Phobee Spell and a wild pitch that allowed Guidry to score following a triple.
Larry added a sacrifice fly in the third inning and LaGrange had an RBI double in the sixth.
Breaux and Jaysa Marceaux led the Ladies offensive onslaught by combining for nine of Crowley’s 21 hits. Breaux was 5-for-5 with an RBI and Marceaux was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
