Crowley High’s Breana Larry capped off a phenomenal weekend with four hits and five RBI Saturday to help lead the Ladies to a pair of victories in the Rapides Softball Tournament.
Larry, a senior center fielder for the Ladies, went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in a 6-1 victory over Class 4A Tioga Saturday morning and followed that up later in the day with a 2-for-3 performance that included a home run, a double and two RBI in a 3-2 victory over Class 2A’s No. 4-rated Mangham.
Overall, Larry hit .700 in the three-game tournament. She was 7-for-10 with two doubles, three triples, a home run and six RBI.
The Ladies improved to 19-7 overall with the two victories.
In the Ladies’ finale, Larry got Crowley on the board when she led off the top of the second inning with a solo home run to center field on a 1-1 pitch.
The Ladies added to their lead one inning later when catcher Sckylier Baronet logged a two-out double to left field that plated junior shortstop Phobee Spell, who had singled.
Larry came through again in the sixth with an RBI double to plate Baronet with the eventual winning run.
Mangham scored its only runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run home run with one out.
CHS pitcher Nella LaGrange then regrouped and got the next two batters to ground out and fly out to end the game.
LaGrange scattered 10 hits and struck out two in earning the victory.
Baronet and Spell joined Larry with two hits each and Jocelyn Marceaux, LaGrange and Alana Abshire each had one in the contest.
LaGrange also picked up the victory in the circle against Tioga after allowing one run on five hits and a hit batter. She struck out four in seven innings.
Larry was also the offensive leader in that contest.
Following a two-out single by Morgan Guidry and a walk to Baronet, Larry delivered a two-run triple to right field to give the Ladies a 2-0 advantage in the first inning.
Spell added a two-run home run in the fifth and Larry plated another run with a single to right field to push the advantage to 5-0.
Tioga answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth for its only run of the game.
Guidry pushed across Crowley’s final run in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly.
Larry, Spell and Jocelyn Marceaux each logged two hits in the victory. Guidry, Jaysa Marceaux and Payton Breaux each finished with one.
The Ladies return to district action this week with a pair of games on tap.
The Ladies will travel to Church Point today for a 5:30 p.m. contest before returning home to take on Port Barre on Thursday, also at 5:30.
