Demons, Dogs and Bears win in opening game of playoffs

MAMOU – It only took five innings Monday for No. 12 Mamou to run past No. 21 Oakdale in the opening round of the Class 3-A baseball playoffs.
Mamou grabbed a 10-0 win and will travel to No. 5 Many for a best-of-three series in the second round.
Oakdale’s Hunter Longino walked four batters including the first three in the Demon lineup.
The an infield error allowed two runs to come across the plate for Mamou.
It then took three Oakdale pitchers to get out of the second inning.
Terrence Holmes walked two of the four batters he faced.
Nick Doyle then came in to pitch and settled things down, but the damage was done as Mamou plated seven runs in the inning.
Mamou pitcher Paul Williams had a strong outing as he struck out five Warriors in his five innings of work.
He walked one, hit a batter, and only allowed one hit – in the fourth inning.
Iota 5, Jennings 1
IOTA – The No. 12 seed Iota Bulldogs beat rival No. 21 Jennings 5-1 to open the Class 3-A state baseball playoffs.
Iota now travels to No. 5 Iowa for a regional-round best-of-three series.
Jennings’ Andrew Benoit recorded a RBI hit to score Ryan Edmondson in the top of the second and that lead held until Iota exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
Tristan Miller earned the complete-game win as he struck out four and allowed five hits and an unearned run over seven innings.
Iota finished with nine hits, led by Hunter Andrus (2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI), Andrew Ashby (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBI) and Brett Spell (2-for-3, double).
Will Doughty (1-for-2), Cade Covalt (1-for-3) and Hunter Wriborg (1-for-4) collected the other hits for Iota.
Nick Zeman went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Jennings offense.
Kamran Richard went 1-for-3 and Nick Cassidy finished 1-for-2.
Church Point 10, Union Parish 0
CHURCH POINT – The No. 11 seed Church Point Bears rolled to a 10-0 win over No. 22 Union Parish to open the Class 3-A state baseball playoffs.
The Bears now travel to No. 6 Buckeye for a regional-round best-of-three series.
Church Point used consistent scoring to pull away from Union Parish as the Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead
