Brett Spell was masterful on the mound and Iota’s offense was just as impressive Tuesday in the Bulldogs’ 10-0 District 5-3A victory over the Crowley High Gents.
With the victory, Iota ran its win streak to 13 straight and is now 17-3 overall and 5-0 in league play.
Crowley High fell to 4-18 overall and 2-3 in district.
Spell baffled the Gents for five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four in the mercy-rule victory. He sat the Gents down in order in four of the five innings, allowing both hits, singles by Zan Habetz and Sean Vincent, in the second inning.
The Bulldogs got on the board early with three runs in the first frame off Crowley High starter Sean Vincent.
Vincent hit Will Doughty to start the bottom of the first and then gave up a two-run home run to right field by Tristan Miller one batter later. Iota added another run on an RBI single by Kameran Aucoin later in the frame.
Doughty logged an RBI single in the second inning and Andrew Ashby recorded a two-run double with two outs in the fourth to give the hosts a 6-0 advantage.
The Dogs put the game away one inning later by scoring four runs on three hits, including a two-run single by Hunter Wriborg and an RBI single by Doughty.
Doughty had two hits and drove in two runs and Miller had a home run and three RBI for the Dogs. Wriborg and Ashby each had one hit and two RBI and Aucoin, Trae Rambin and Deven Mouton each finished with one hit.
Vincent was tagged with the loss after surrendering nine runs on six hits, five walks and four hit batters. He struck out one in four innings.
Randy Hanks pitched the final frame and gave up one run on two hits.
