Dogs top Panthers; Pios knock off Wolves

PINE PRAIRIE – The victories just keep piling up for the Iota Bulldogs.
Iota (24-3), Class 3A’s No. 4-rated team in the most recent power ratings, banged out 19 hits and tallied seven runs in the final inning to cruise past Pine Prairie, 15-4, Thursday evening in a District 5-3A matchup on the Panthers’ home field.
The victory kept Iota unbeaten in league play at 11-0 and it marked their 20th straight win dating back to a 7-6 loss to Jennings in the Crowley High Tournament in early March.
Hunter Wriborg was credited with the victory after allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks. He struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings.
Kamron Aucoin came on in relief and retired the first two batters he faced to end the game.
Andrew Ashby paced the Bulldogs’ offensive attack with a 4-for-5 performance that included three RBI. Wriborg also had a nice day at the plate with three hits an two RBI.
Aucoin, Will Doughty, Trae Rambin and Dakota Breaux each tallied two hits and Deven Mouton, Gavin Vidrine, Tristan Miller and Mitchell Lege each had one.
Notre Dame 9, Rayne 1
CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Pios (19-8) broke open a tight game with a six-run fifth inning and then tacked on two more runs an inning later to cruise past Rayne, 9-1, Friday evening at Miller Stadium.
The Pios collected six two-out hits in the fifth inning outburst.
Chase Habetz picked up the victory on the mound after allowing one unearned run on three hits and four walks. He struck out four.
Tanner Lagrange suffered the loss for the Wolves. He gave up nine runs on 13 hits and three walks in six innings.
Garrett Bergeron pacd the Pios with three hits; Konnor Broussard and Collin Kirsch each had two and Will Veillon, Elliot Hebert, Thomas Stevens, Matt Abshire and Habetz each had one.
Hebert also led the Pios with two RBI. Broussard, Kirsch, Bergeron, Stevens, Abshire and Habetz each had one.
Rayne’s Demarcus James, Bryce Gatte and Tucker Wingate each singled in the loss.
