IOTA – The Lady Bulld ogs exploded for seven runs in the fifth and added three more runs in the sixth inning to seal a 12-2 District 5-3A victory over the Eunice Lady Bobcats.
Eunice (4-11, 2-4) scored a run in the top of the second when Cassie Thomas singled and scored on an Iota error.
The Lady Bulldogs (11-4, 5-1) tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Greta Fontenot reached on an error and scored Ryley Crochet’s triple.
Iota grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Dixie Guidry (2-for-3) doubled and scored on a Lady Cat error.
Eunice forced a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth when McKenzie Guillory reached on an error and scored on Hailey Sonnier’s hit.
Iota responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.
Teri Johnson (4-for-4 singled, Maci Wright reached on an error and then Peyton DuBose (2-for-4, 3 RBI) homered as Iota grabbed a 5-2 advantage.
Fontenot (2-for-4) tripled and scored on a single by Crochet (2-for-2, 3 RBI).
Taylor Dupre singled and then Makenzie Droddy singled in two runs as Iota moved ahead, 8-2.
Droddy later scored on an error for a 9-2 Lady Dog advantage.
Iota added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the mercy-rule win.
Fontenot earned the win for Iota as she allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Thomas went 3-for-3 and Sonnier went 2-for-2 to lead Eunice in hits.
