Lady Bobcats grab first win

ELTON – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats earned their first victory of the season Thursday night with a 60-50 victory over Welsh in the Elton tournament.

Coach Wayne Fontenot’s Lady Bobcats wasted no time in taking the lead, outscoring Welsh by a 14-8 margin in the first quarter. 

Leah Walker and Shania Malveaux scored five points apiece to lead the Lady Cats offensively in the initial quarter.

The Lady Cats maintained their lead in the second quarter, outpacing the Lady Greyhounds by a 15-11 margin. 

Shania Toussaint led the scoring in the second quarter for the Lady Cats with nine points, including one 3-point field goal as the Lady Bobcats went into halftime with a 29-19 lead. 

Welsh made a move to close the halftime gap in the third quarter, but the Lady Cats stymied the Lady Greyhounds, outscoring them by a 12-11 margin to head into the fourth quarter with a 40-31 lead. Jesslyn Reed had four points to lead the Eunice scoring in the third quarter.

Behind the scoring of Emily Coleman and Amiya Dartest, Welsh scored 18 points in the final quarter. But the Lady Cats withstood the run with Stacie White leading the way with seven points as the Lady Cats scored 20 fourth-quarter points to take the victory.

Three Lady Bobcats hit the double-digit mark in scoring, led by Toussaint with 15 points. 

Malveaux and White finished with 14 points apiece. 

Reed finished with eight points, going six for six at the free-throw line. 

Walker had five points and Lakeera Garrett added four points.
