Lady Bobcats roll in Oakdale tourney

OAKDALE – The Lady Bobcats improved to 4-2 overall on the softball season as Eunice grabbed two wins in the Oakdale tournament.
The Lady Cats opened with a 5-2 win over Oberlin and closed the tournament with a 10-8 extra inning win over Westlake.
Eunice 5, Oberlin 2
The Lady Cats scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back in the win over Oberlin.
Alissa Pate singled and scored on a hit by Kelsea Aguillard. After Jailyn Pavich walked, courtesy runner Jeslyn Edwards and Aguillard scored on a double by Olivia Thibodeaux.
Eunice added a run in the bottom of the third frame when Natalie Vidrine singled and scored on a hit by Nicole Vidrine.
The Lady Cats pushed ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Aguillard walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then stole home.
After stranding base runners in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, Oberlin avoided the shutout as the Lady Tigers scored twice in the top of the seventh inning.
Madison Bass singled, stole second and scored on a double by Kaitlyn Pitre.
Courtesy runner Arrianna Victorian Victorian later stole home to close the gap to 5-2.
Aguillard went 2-for-2 with a walk, a RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lady Cats, while Pate finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Eunice 10, Westlake 8
The Lady Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning as Eunice earned a 9-7 win over Westlake.
Using international tie-breaker rules, Cassie Thomas was placed at second and Pate doubled to begin the rally.
Nicole Vidrine bunted which allowed both Thomas and Pate to score on the hit and throws.
Vidrine raced to third on the play and then scored on a ground out by Caroline Vienne to push the Lady Cats up, 10-7.
Westlake pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning before the Lady Cat defense stopped the rally to earn the win.
Eunice scored first early in the game when McKenzie Guillory, advanced to second on a Natalie Vidrine bunt and then scored after stealing third base.
Westlake quickly tied the game in the bottom of the inning and the Lady Rams exploded for five runs including three-run home run in the second inning to grab a 6-1 advantage.
The Lady Cats began their comeback with three runs in the top of the third to close the gap to two runs.
Carli Boone was hit by a pitch, Aguillard singled and Olivia Thibodeaux walked to load the bases.
Guillory ripped a double to left field that allowed Boone to score, but Aguillard was call out at the plate.
Thibodeaux and Guillory and both stole home to push the Lady Cats closer, 6-4.
Eunice pulled closer with another run in the top of the fourth when Pate singled and scored on a sacrifice ground out by Caroline Vienne.
The Lady Cats then grabbed a 7-6 advantage with two runs in the top of the fifth inning as Guillory singled, Natalie Vidrine bunted and both scored on a triple by Pate.
Eunice threatened to add a run in the top of the seventh when Guillory doubled, stole third base was left stranded at the corner.
Westlake then sent the game into extra innings with a run scored on a steal of home to force a 7-7 tie before the Lady Cats grabbed the win in the eighth inning.
Guillory went 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Pate finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lady Cats.
Jailyn Pavich and Vienne combined for the win as they allowed seven runs on 14 hits.
Eunice continues District 5-3A action at Northwest 3:30 p.m. today.
