Lady Cats rally past Lady Jays

It was a battle to the final serve as Eunice rallied from a 0-2 deficit to grab a 3-2 win over St. Edmund.
The Lady Jays jumped out to a 7-2 advantage in the first set, aided by two hits by Hannah Benoit, a kill by Rebecca Benoit and several Lady Cat miscues.
Eunice battled back to tie the game, taking advantage of Lady Jay mistakes and capped off by an ace from Sophie Vidrine.
After a 10-10 tie, St. Edmund then went on an 8-0 run off several EHS miscues.
The Lady Cats closed the gap to 20-12 on a serve ace from Madison Freeman before a spike by St. Ed’s AnnaBelle Fontenot.
Rebecca Benoit later added a well-placed soft shot as SEH pushed ahead, 23-14.
After hits into the net by both teams, a serve error later sealed the 25-15 win for the Lady Jays.
The second set was a close battle early on as neither team could build a sizeable lead.
Spikes from Fontenot and Ellie Manuel along with well-placed serves from Chole Warner pushed the Lady Jays ahead, 12-7.
Gabbie Mitchell had a block and a kill for the Lady Cats but St Ed’s reponded to extend its lead to 20-15.
With Madison Freeman serving, Eunice fought back to close the gap to 20-19.
A spike by Savannah DeVillier and a Lady Cat miscue gave SEH a 22-19 lead.
After a spike by Lady Cats’ Mitchell, the Lady Jays scored the final two points to seal the 25-22 win.
Eunice jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set taking advatage of several Lady Jay errors.
Fontenot’s two key hits allowed the Lady Jays to close the gap to 5-4.
A block by Rhylea Gradney along with spikes by Mitchell and Madison Freeman pushed EHS ahead, 10-6.
St. Edmund forced a 10-10 tie off four Lady Cat miscues.
The game was tied again at 11-11 and 13-13 as the two teams battled for control of the contest.
Seven consecutive Lady Jay errors along with a kill from Mitchell and a block by Allison Freeman allowed Eunice to move ahead, 22-13.
Back-to-back strong serves by DeVillier helped the Lady Jays close the deficit to 23-17, but two consecutive SEH errors sealed the 25-17 win for the Lady Cats.
The competitive battle continued in the fourth set as EHS opened with a slim lead before the Lady Jays forced a 3-3 tie.
Consecutive serve aces by DeVillier combined with four Lady Cat errors pushed SEH ahead, 8-4.
Mitchell recorded a spike for the Lady Cats, but an ace by Julia Zaunbrecher helped the Lady Jays keep their lead, 10-5.
St. Edmund extended its margin to 14-7 before the Lady Cats came storming back.
Five Lady Jay errors and a kill by Madison Freeman helped the Lady Cats close the margin to 15-13.
Eunice’s comeback continued with an ace by Gradney combined with hits from Madison Freeman and Mitchell allowed the Lady Cats to grab a 19-17 lead.
The Lady Jays later moved ahead 21-19 on a serve ace by DeVillier, a kill by Rebecca Benoit.
EHS continued to fight back, sparked by hit from Allison Freeman to force a 21-21 tie.
The set was tied twice more as the two team battled to the finish before a spike by Maci Vincent and a Lady Jay hit out of bounds sealed the 27-25 win for the Lady Cats.
In the winner-take-all fifth set, St. Ed’s opened with a 3-0 lead including an ace by Manuel.
Consecutive kills by Mitchell and a Lady Jay error allowed the Lady Cats to tie the game, 3-3.
EHS took advantage of five Lady Jay errors and a serve ace to push ahead, 8-3.
Kills by Zaunbrecher and Manuel along with an ace by DeVillier allowed St. Ed’s to force an 8-8 tie.
Eunice pushed ahead, 12-9 on four SEH errors.
But the Lady Jays regrouped to retake a 14-12 advantage on four EHS miscues and a well-placed soft hit by Fontenot.
Eunice used two Lady Jay errors and a dink by Allison Freeman to give the Lady Cats a 15-14 lead.
St. Ed’s then moved ahead 16-15 on a hit into the net and an ace by Fontenot.
After EHS tied the game, the Lady Jays moved closer to closing the set on a Lady Cat error.
But it was Eunice with the final push on a kill by Mitchell and two Lady Jay hits out of bounds as the Lady Cats earned the 19-17 win.
