IOTA – The Lady Bulldogs scored five runs in both the second and fourth innings as Iota earned an 11-0 win over the Eunice Lady Cats in the District 5-3A finale.
The Lady Bulldogs (20-9, 11-4) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Greta Fontenot belted a home run over the centerfield fence.
The Lady Cats (11-15, 3-11) threatened in the first inning when Natalie Vidrine walked and again in the second frame when Jailyn Pavish reached in an error and Kelsea Aguillard but none could score.
Iota pushed ahead 6-0 in the bottom of the inning, begun when Joslyn Fruge singled and Dixie Guidry walked.
Courtesy runner Sophie Vidrine and Guidry both scored on a hit by Maci Wright.
Amelie Armand then drove in Wright to push the Lady Bulldogs ahead, 4-0.
Fontenot reached on a fielder’s choice, while Madelyn Link followed with a single.
Ryley Crochet capped the scoring with a single to drive in Fontenot and Link to give Iota a six-run advantage.
Eunice threatened again in the third inning when Olivia Thibodeaux walked and Natalie Vidrine singled but neither could score.
After Iota pitcher Joslyn Fruge struck out three Lady Cats in the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Bulldog offense sealed the win with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Wright and Fontenot singled and the duo scored on a triple by Link for an 8-0 advatage.
Crochet singled in Link and Welch followed with a home run to left field.
The Lady Cats went down in order in the top of the fifth as Iota completed the mercy-rule win.
Fruge earned the victory as she allowed just one hit with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Link finished 2-for-3 with ttwo RBI and two runs scored, Crochet went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Fontenot went 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored.
Wright went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored.
