Lady Jays fall to Gueydan

GUEYDAN – The Honey Bears exploded for a 21-5 second-quarter run as Gueydan rallied for a 56-46 win over St. Edmund Tuesday in a non-district clash.
The Lady Jays (3-3) opened the game with a 13-9 first quarter advantage.
Jill Simpson led SEH with six points in the period, while Mary Beth Lafleur chipped in a three-pointer.
Kendra Petry pushed in four points to lead Gueydan and teammate Ryleigh Istre drilled a three-pointer.
Gueydan (4-3) used its second quarter surge for a 30-18 halftime lead.
Petry, Samantha Romero and Kirsten Reed all scored five points in the period for the Honey Bears.
Simpson drained a trey and Lafleur added two free throws to account for the Lady Jays’ scoring in the second frame.
St. Edmund regrouped for a 9-7 battle in the third quarter, led by four points from Rebecca Benoit along with a trey from Tanzy Miller and two free throws by Lafleur.
Reed scored four points for Gueydan in the period, while Istre chipped in three points.
The two offenses came alive in the fourth quarter as the Lady Jays battled Gueydan for a 19-19 tie.
Lafleur scored 13 points in the period, including eight free throws.
Benoit, Savannah DeVillier and Kinsley Marcantel all added a bucket for the Lady Jays.
Reed led Gueydan in the quarter with 11 points.
Gracie Simon scored five points and Petry added three points in the frame.
Lafleur led St. Edmund with 20 points, while Simpson contributed 12 points.
Benoit had six points, while Marcantel and DeVillier both finished with four points.
Reed led Gueydan with 19 points, while Petry chipped in 12 and Simon added 10 points.
St. Edmund opened the Elton tournament Wednesday against Westlake.
