Lady Jays split games with OHS

OBERLIN – It was the best of times and the worst of times for the Lady Jays spftball team Thursday.
St. Edmund won a 1-0 extra inning thriller over Oberlin, but the Lady Tigers responded with a 4-3 win to hand the Lady Jays their first district loss of the season.
After stranding nine baserunners over eight innings, St. Edmund (10-3, 4-1) earned the win in the ninth when Kennedy Ardoin doubled and scored on a Jacee Cobb double.
Karleigh Soileau earned the win as she allowed just two hits with 13 strikeouts and five walks.
Jaedyn Soileau went 3-for-5 to lead the Lady Jay batters.
In a game that was continued from earlier this season, Oberlin (6-11, 3-2) broke a 2-2 tie to grab a 4-2 win over the Lady Jays.
After three scoreless innings, the Lady Jays pushed across two runs in the fourth when Kinsley Marcantel and Mary Beth Lafleur both walked and scored on a double by Anna Belle Fontenot.
The Lady Tigers tied the game in the sixth inning as Haley Perkins walked, Emma Johnson singled and then three Lady Jay errors with two outs allowed both to score.
St. Edmind retook the lead in the sixth when Marcantel singled and scored on a hit by Fontenot.
Oberlin sealed the win with two runs in the seventh inning, begun when Kaitlyn Pitre singled, Amber Perkins doubled and both scored.
Fontenot went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Lady Jays, while Jaedyn Soileau and Marcantel both finished 2-for-3 with a walk.
After traveling to Westminster Christian Academy Saturday, St. Edmund returns home 4 p.m. Tuesday against district rival Merryville (2-5, 1-3).
