Lady Rebels cruise past Bell City; Rebels fall short in overtime

The Midland Lady Rebels blew open a tight game in the second half by exploding for 40 points to cruise past Bell City, 60-31, Tuesday evening.
The Lady Rebels (11-12, 1-0) took a slim 20-15 advantage at the break before outscoring the Lady Bruins 15-6 in the third quarter.
The hosts finally caught fire in the final frame, connecting on four 3-pointers and outscoring the visitors 25-10 to close out the game.
Hannah Credeur, Kenedei Beard and Ravyn Miguez each scored 10 points to lead the winners. Anna Claire Trahan followed with nine points, Jacklyn Sims added eight, Emma Boudreaux had seven and Lex Newman finished with six.
Unfortunately, the Rebels weren’t as fortunate in the boys game.
The Rebels (11-15, 0-1) shot a dismal 30 percent from the free throw line, making just eight of their 27 attempts, in a 47-42 overtime loss to the Bruins.
Midland led by 10 (37-27) after three periods, but the Bruins outscored the Rebels 13-3 in the fourth to force overtime.
The Rebels went just 3 of 9 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.
Midland’s only two points of the extra period were from the free throw line.
Dylan Cormier paced the Rebels with 11 points. Anthony Massey and Isaiah Myers also hit double figures with 10 points apiece.
In addition for the Rebels, Chris Breaux scored six points, Tyler Bonnie had three and Cammrayn Meaux finished with two.
