They all wanted a chance to play at the high school state tennis championships, but that dream was taken away by the COVID-19 pandemic.
But their accomplishments in the classroom were recognized by the LHSAA as part of the Academic All-State honors.
Six local tennis players earned academic all-state honors.
Eunice High’s Megan Fontenot and Caroline Andrus were named to Composite Academic All-State list with a 4.0 GPA along with St. Edmund scholar athlete Brianna Bertrand.
In Class 4-A, Lady Bobcat senior Emily Gotreaux made the list with a 3.95 GPA.
Eunice High’s Deacon Richard (3.95) and Ting Jiang (3.90) also earned academic honors.
The LHSAA All-Academic award program recognizes the academic excellence of senior student-athletes who have attained a 3.5 grade point average or higher by placing them on the Composite All-Academic Team or Class All-Academic Team.
To earn composite team honors, a student-athlete’s six-semester GPA must have an un-weighted 4.00.
In order to be selected to the All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a senior, have participated in the sport for at least two years, and achieved a six-semester cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 or better based on a 4.0 scale.
