Northwest sweeps Eunice

PRAIRIE RONDE – The Eunice High Lady Bobcats fell prey to the Lady Raiders of Northwest High School here Friday night in District action at the Northwest gym by a score of 84-70.
The Lady Bobcats fell behind in the opening quarter as Northwest outscored the Lady Cats by a 22-12 margin.
Tashiana Fontenot and Khahil Malone combined to score 21 of the 22 points in the opening quarter of action.
Eunice managed to score points in the first quarter with Stacie White, Leah Walker, and Shynia Toussaint combining to score 12 points.
The Lady Bobcats managed to tie the score at 20-20 in the second quarter thanks to Stacie White who nailed three 3-point goals.
Jesslyn Reed added a 3-point goal and Toussaint scored on a two-point goal and two free throws, but the Lady Raiders maintained their lead heading into halftime, with help from Katlyn Manuel.
Manuel pitched in with 12 points in the second quarter and the Lady Cats trailed by a 42-32 margin going into the third quarter of play.
The Lady Bobcats managed to score 23 points in the third quarter with White scoring 11 points and Toussaint adding five points.
The Lady Cats still trailed the Lady Raiders heading the fourth period of play.
Northwest sealed the victory by outscoring the Lady Cats by a 22-15 margin in the fourth quarter. Leah Walker, scored six points in the final quarter and White added six, but the Lady Raiders scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to earn an 84-70 victory.
White led Eunice in scoring with 32 points. Walker scored 16 points and Toussaint chipped in with 13 points and Jesslyn Reed finishede with six points.

NWHS 49, Eunice 45
Eunice High battled against the Raiders but lost another close District 5-3A contest as Northwest escaped with a 49-45 win over the Bobcats.
Northwest(11-10, 5-1) jumped out to a 19-13 lead at the end of the first quarter behind the play of Monrtaze Sam with five points.
Joseph Chaisson added a 3-point goal for the Raiders.
Leading the Bobcats (4-13, 2-4) in the opening quarter was MyKal Moore with four points and Trey Cooper with a 3-pointer of his own.
In the second quarter, Moore scored five points to close the scoring gap and Isiah Darby added four points to keep the Bobcats in the game.
The Cats trailed 34-24 at the half thanks to Moore’s eight points.
The Bobcats began to cut into the Raiders’ lead in the third quarter of play, Moore scoring six points and Carlin Vigers adding three points to pull the Bobcats within the Raiders by a 38-35 margin.
Both teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter, with the Bobcats cutting into the Raider lead with 4:57 left in the final quarter as the Bobcats took a 42-41 lead thanks to a Divine Hampton rebound and goal.
The Bobcats seemed to take charge in the late going, taking a 45-43 lead with 1:34 remaining in regulation.
But with 39.8 seconds left in the game, the Raiders regained some momentum when Carlin Vigers fouled out.
Malik White would end the contest at the free-throw line to give the Raiders a 49-45 victory.
Top scorers for the game included Mykal Moore with 17 points and Carlin Vigers with nine points.
Montaze Sam led the Raiders in scoring with 16 points. Keshawn Lazard added seven points for Northwest.
Eunice returns home Tuesday to face Iota and entertains Crowley on Friday in the Bobcat gym.
