Notre Dame qualifies 16 for regional tennis action

A total of 16 players will be representing Notre Dame’s tennis teams at this week’s Division III Regional in Lake Charles.
The 16 men and women qualified at district competition last week. The Pios had an overall league record of 8-4 and the Lady Pios finished the regular season at 7-5.
The Notre Dame squads will begin regional action today at the Lake Charles Racquet Club. The tournament wraps up on Wednesday with the top eight singles and doubles teams advancing to the state tournament, which will be held at the ULM Tennis Center in Monroe beginning on April 23.
“I’m excited about regionals. The team pulled in some impressive wins throughout the season and we will be going into regionals with a great record,” said ND coach DeAnn Goss.
On the mens side, Austin Lamm is the Pios’ No. 1 seed with a record of 9-1. Patrick Cormier is No. 2 with a record of 10-1.
Playing No. 1 doubles for the Lady Pios will be Meaghan Thibodeaux and Ellie Fields with a record of 11-2. Audrey Leonards and Catherine Gonzalez have a record of 6-3 in the second spot and Amalie Link and Sydney Spallino are competing at No. 3 with a record of 11-3.
The other Lady Pios qualifying for regionals were Addie Belaire and Grace Bernard, playing at No. 1 and No. 2 in singles action, respectively.
Cameron Russell and Jack Frank move on as the Pios’ No. 1 doubles team as do their No. 2 team of Cameron Nelson and Robert Albritton and No. 3 Sam Frank and Hunter Terro.
Alternates for Notre Dame include Jacqueline Broussard, Anna Claire Gossen, Margaret Schmid, John Harrington and Luke Kibodeaux.
Also seeing action in the 2018 season were Justin Hong, Peter Nguyen, Annie Gielen, Emma Gielen, Catherine Cramer, Allie Nork, Gracie Menard, Gracie Mouton, Mackenzie Olinger, Lauren Broussard and Madison Carlson.
