Notre Dame sweeps Lake Arthur

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers simply did not have an answer for Notre Dame hurler John Hoffpauir Wednesday afternoon.
Hoffpauir, a senior, scattered seven hits and struck out six in earning a 5-0 shutout over the Tigers.
Collin Kirsch gave Hoffpauir all the run support he would need in the first inning when the senior shortstop led off the game with a solo home run to left field.
The Pios extended the lead in the third inning on a Will Veillon RBI single to push the advantage to 2-0.
The Pios tacked on their final three runs in the sixth inning courtesy of a two-run double from Chase Habetz and an RBI double by Kane Bergeron.
Kirsch finished the day with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate. He also had a double.
Habetz, Bergeron, Veillon and Elliot Hebert also had one hit each for the Pios.
Lady Pios crush Lake Arthur
LAKE ARTHUR – The Notre Dame Lady Pios continued their tear through District 6-2A competition Wednesday with a 20-1 thrashing of Lake Arthur in a contest that was halted after the fourth inning due to the mercy-rule.
The Lady Pios pushed across 15 runs in the first two frames and then added five more in the fourth to end the game.
Overall, the Lady Pios racked up 19 hits, including 10 for extra bases.
Melise Gossen, Abbey Higginbotham, Haley Maloz and Sydnei Simon each tallied three hits in the victory.
Gossen doubled, tripled and drove home four runs; Higginbotham had a home run and three RBI and Maloz logged three triples and four RBI. Simon added two triples and two RBI.
Madelyn Link also had a big day at the plate with a home run, a double and four RBI..
Morgan Alleman added two singles and Mary Kate Bourgeois, Maria Brown and Mak Abshire each finished with one hit. Bourgeois also had two RBI and Brown had one.
