OC downs Lady Jays

BASILE – The two defenses dominated the game as Opelousas Catholic grabbed a 38-33 win the St. Edmund Lady Jays in the Basile basketball tournament.
The Lady Vikings (7-1) opened with a 15-10 first quarter lead, sparked by four points each from Alyssa David and Danielle Leblanc.
The Lady Jays (2-6) were led by five points from Kinsley Marcantel.
The teams battled to a 8-8 tie in the second quarter as OC took a 23-18 advantage into the locker room.
Abby Miller, Maggie Larriviere, Mary Beth Lafleur and Savannah DeVillier all scored a bucket for the Lady Jays in the period.
OC outscored St. Ed’s 10-8 in the third quarter to extend its margin to 33-26.
Gabby Fontenot, Miller, Larriviere and DeVillier all chipped in buckets for the Lady Jays.
Leblanc led the Lady Vikings with four points in the third frame.
St. Edmund rallied for a 7-5 fourth quarter surge but couldn’t close the final gap, falling by five points.
Devillier pushed in three points to lead the Lady Jays with nine points.
Larriviere added a bucket to finish with six points.
Fontenot hit her second shot of the game to chip in four points.
Miller contributed seven points for the Lady Jays.
Leblanc led OC with 12 points, while Amelia Miguez, Makenna Denafrio and David added six points each.
After completing the Basile tournament, the Lady Jays will entertain Pine Prairie at 6 p.m. Monday.
