Saints clip Bobcats

LAKE CHARLES – The St. Louis Saints scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture a 7-6 victory over the Eunice High Bobcats in action Monday at Legion Field.
The Bobcats opened the game with a run in the first inning after Grant Fontenot walked, stole second base and scored on a groundout off the bat of Tyler Darbonne for a 1-0 lead.
The Saints scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead against Fontenot.
The Bobcats scored a run in the second inning as Jaheim Mitchell walked, stole second base and scored on a single by Deandre Courville to cut the Saints’ lead to 3-2.
Neither team was able to score in the third or fourth innings, but the Bobcats managed to score two runs in the fifth on a double by Fontenot and RBI’s by Seth Deshotel and Luke Andrepont to take a 4-3 lead.
Both teams were unable to score in the sixth inning, but the Cats added to their lead in the seventh. Austin Phillips walked and scored on a double by Deshotel, who scored on a single by Chris Suire to give the Cats a 6-3 lead.
The Saints tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh and claimed the victory in the eight inning when Caleb Duhon singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chase Wilson.
The opening round of the John R. Young Chevrolet/Frey Holding Compmay baseball tournament was held Thursday.
At Eunice High, New Iberia downed South Beauregard (9-2), while South Terrebonne cruised to a 12-1 win over the EHS Bobcats.
At Blue Jay Field, Lafayette Christian Academy eded Oberlin (12-11), while Welsh rolled to a 15-3 win over St. Edmund.
At Iota, Mamou grabbed a 12-3 win over Grand Lake, while the Bullodgs earned a 9-3 victory over Beau Chene.
At Sacred Heart of Ville Platte, the Trojans earned an 11-9 win over Pine Prairie.
