St.Ed’s falls to WCA

BELLEVUE – The Westminster Christian Academy Lady Crusaders slipped past St. Edmund for a 40-36 win.
WCA (7-1, 4-4) opened with a 15-10 first quarter advantage, led by five points from Christian Terry.
Maggie Larriviere led the Lady Jays (9-15, 5-3) with four points.
The two defensed dominated the seceond period as the Lady Crusaders took a 22-15 lead into the locker room.
Gabby Fontenot hit a trey for the Lady Jays and Larrrivere added a bucket.
St. Edmund outscored WCA 12-8 in the third period, led by four points from Larriviere.
Andrea Bradley hit three treys to push WCA ahead, 34-23.
The Lady Jay mounted a furious 13-6 rally in the final period, but the comeback fell four points short.
Camille Leger had five points including a trey at the buzzer. while Fontenot added four points for the Lady Jays.
Terry had four points in the period for WCA to finish with 15 points.
Larriviere led the Lady Jays with 10 points, while Leger and Fontenot added nine points each.
St. Ed’s visits district leader North Central on Tuesday before the home finale Friday against rival Basile.

The season’s struggles continued for the Blue Jays as WCA rolled to a 79-33 win.
The Crusaders (9-12, 5-3) began the game with a 24-11 first quarter run. sparked by 11 points from Corey Pellerin and eight points by Ken Jones.
Carter Andrus scored five points in the first period, while Austin Gradney pushed in four points for the Blue Jays.
WCA exploded for a 23-2 second period run to put the game away, aided by 12 points from Braylin Henry.
Andrus scored the only Blue Jay points in the period as WCA led 47-13 at the break.
Westminster went on a 15-7 third quarter run, sparked by five points from Grant Brignac.
Gradney hit a trey for the Jays, while Christian Fontenot and Stephan Thibodeaux each added a bucket in the quarter.
The Crusaders sealed the win with a 17-13 fourth quarter run, aided by six points from Henry who finished with 19 points.
Gradney drained two treys and a bucket in the period to lead the Blue Jays with 15 points.
Tyler Fonville hit a three-pointer and Alex Dupre added a bucket for St. Ed’s.
