Trojans bounce Blue Jays

VILLE PLATTE – Sacred Heart of Ville Platte dominated the series against rival St. Edmund as the Trojans ended the Blue Jays’ season in the opening round of the LHSAA Division IV playoffs.
After holding St. Edmund to two hits in a 7-4 win over the Jays, Sacred Heart cruised to a 13-1 victory to clinch the series.
Sacred Heart will travel to top-seed Ouachita Christian for the quarterfinals set to begin at 5 p.m. Friday.
The Trojans exploded for four runs in the first inning, begun when Wesley Launey led off with a walk and scored on a hit by Garrett Fontenot.
Christian Duplechain walked and later courtesy runner Nick Perry scored on a bit by Gabe Fontenot.
Drew Bordelon was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Conner Bordelon followed with a two-RBI single to push the Trojans up 4-0.
Sacred Heart kept the rally going in the second, begun when Launey was hit by a pitch, Garrett Fontenot singled and an Blue Jay error allowed two runs to score.
Duplechain would score on a sacrifice fly to increase the Trojans’ lead to 7-0.
The Blue Jays threatened in the bottom of the frame when Dawson Ardoin was hit by a pitch, but a double play ended the inning.
Sacred Heart’s Cade Manuel walked and Launey singled and both scored on a Blue Jay error as the Trojans pushed ahead, 9-0.
St. Ed’s only run of the game came in the bottom of the third inning when Ian Dupre singled and courtesy runner Wesley Driggs scored on a ground -out by Will Turk.
Sacred Heart answered with a run in the fourth inning when Drew Bordelon reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a double by Conner Bordelon.
The Blue Jays threatened in the bottom of the inning when Brad Miller singled but another double play stopped the rally.
Sacred Heart added three insurance runs in the fifth, begun when Launey was hit by a pitch, JT Harper walked and Garrett Fontenot bunted to load the bases.
Courtesy runner Perry and Harper both scored on consecutive sacrifice fly outs as SHVP moved ahead, 12-1.
The Trojans’ final came on a single by Drew Bordelon to push in Fontenot.
Sacred Heart pitcher Cannon Beaver earned the complete game win as he struck out two and allowed one earned run on three hits.
The Trojans finished with nine hits over Blue Jay pitchers Remi Guillory and Bryce Vidrine, led by Gabe Fontenot (2-for-3, 4 RBI), Bordelon (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and Garrett Fontenot (2-for-4, RBI).
