VPHS downs Eunice

Body

It was all about the Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs as they dominated around the goal on their way to a 59-26 victory over the Eunice High Lady Bobcats in District 5-3A action Friday at the Bobcat gym.
Ville Platte ran out to an early 10-2 lead with 4:15 left in the first quarter behind the inside play of Ty’Rema Doucet and Keologh Calvin.
Doucet had six points in the first quarter and Calvin chipped in with eight as the Lady Bulldogs built a 22-5 lead by the end of the quarter.
Shania Toussaint scored three points and Shainia Malveaux had two for the Lady Bobcats in the opening quarter.
The Lady Bobcats did a better job of staying with the Lady Bulldogs in the second quarter as both teams finished with nine points thanks to five points from Stacie White.But the Lady Bulldogs still entered halftime with a 31-14 lead.
Calvin would continue her dominant play inside, scoring nine points in the third quarter to lead the scoring as Ville Platte expanded their lead to 48-14 by the end of the third quarter.
Miyo McKinney would take over the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth quarter. McKinnery had seven points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
The bright spots for the Lady Bobcats in the fourth quarter were Leah Walker and Toussaint with six and five points, respectively.
Leading scorer in the game for Ville Platte was McKinney with 23 points. Doucet added 18 and Calvin had 12.
Toussaint led the Lady Bobcats with 11 points for the game. Walker finished with eight and White ended the night with five.
The Lady Bobcats will continue district play on Tuesday with a trip to Northwest High.
VPHS 56, Eunice 54
The Eunice High Bobcats suffered a tough 56-54 loss to the Ville Platte High Bulldogs in their District 5-3A opener on Friday night at the Bobcat gym.
Both teams struggled with consistency in the early going of the game, with Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats holding a 12-11 lead at the concliusion of the first quarter.
Bobcat guard Malik Poullard scored six points to lead the Bobcats in that opening quarter.
Ville Platte earned the edge in the second quarter behind the play of Tyran Jones Shanicole Holland. Brandon Ndubueze scored six points to lead the Cats.The Bulldogs used an 18-17 edge in the secnod quarter to tie the game at 29-29 going into halftime.
The score continued tight into the third quarter, with the Bulldogs outscoring the Bobcats by a 15-12 margin to hold a 44-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats used a three-point field goal by Poullard to take a 46-45 lead with 6:30 left on the clock. But the inside play of Shawn Jones helped the Bulldogs regain the lead at 51-48 with just under four minutes remaining.
Georrein Dupre drove inside for a basket to cut the lead to 51-50 and Jude Cormier went inside for a bucket to give the Bobcats a 52-51 lead at the 1:41 mark. Jamal Byers hit a field goal to give the Bulldogs a 53-52 lead, but Cormier responded with a field goal to put the Bobcats back on top 54-53 with 1:15 left in the game.
A foul by the Cats put Jones on the line and he tied the game as he made one of two free throws. A Eunice turnover gave the Bulldogs the ball and Byers drove to the basket for a goal with just 10 seconds left on the clock to give Ville Platte a 56-54 lead. The Cats missed with a last desperate shot to end the game.
The Bobcats, now 0-1 in district play, will travel to face Northwest on Tuesday. The Bobcats return home on Friday to face the Church Point High Bears.
