Betsie Fontenot named Eunice High Teacher of the Year

Betsie Fontenot is Teacher of the Year at Eunice High School. The 2000 graduate of Eunice High School teaches Algebra I. She started teaching at Eunice High in 2013, however, has been in her educational career since 2005.
After graduating high school, Fontenot attended LSUE for two years and continued her bachelor’s degree in secondary math education at McNeese State University. She graduated from McNeese in 2005 and began teaching the same year in August at Welsh High School in Jeff Davis parish. She was awarded Teacher of the Year there in 2011.
Fontenot was pleased to find her way back to her hometown of Eunice to teach. She added, “It is good to be able to give back to my alma mater. I absolutely love teaching. I definitely could not do it with out the Lord’s help and guidance, but I truly enjoy going to work every day.
Fontenot interacts with her students and enjoys teaching them. She said, “A few things I enjoy most; I love when students pop in to visit or to ask for advice. I love when my students have that light bulb moment, and everything starts to make sense for them. I love when my students realize they can do what they thought would be impossible.
“I love to see them grow and learn every day. I am grateful for the memories we make and the countless lessons they teach me.
Fontenot serves as co-sponsor of the National Honor Society and A.C.E. Letterman as well as a part of the PBIS committee.
Fontenot is pursuing her master’s degree in educational leadership.
She is married to Kevin Fontenot for the past nine years and the couple have three children,Camille, 9, Owen 6, and Caroline 3.
