St. Edmund High is in its second year of a 1-to-1-student/computer initiative for high school students. In addition to the introduction of computers, St. Edmund adopted Big Ideas Math for the 2017-18 school year. The new math curriculum is enhanced with the incorporation of technology. With the use of computers, instructors are able to assign students work at their individual ability levels for the skill being taught. The website also includes videos, flash cards and other tools to reinforce math skills. The teacher receives data on the class as a whole and on the individual students. This feedback helps to guide instruction as well as aids in filling gaps in learning. “The utilization of the technology component of Big Ideas Math allows us to prepare our high school students for the math labs used in all colleges in our surrounding area,” reported Angelle Manuel, math instructor.
