Members of the class of 1967 of Charles Drew High School met together for a class reunion recently. During the three-days of activities, these former students of “The Mighty Drew” had an opportunity to reacquaint themselves to each other with participating in the annual Eunice High School homecoming parade on Friday.
There was a Meet and Greet reception held Friday evening with a Cobra Gumbo served. On Saturday, breakfast and a visitation of the school grounds was held. Classmates took a walk down the halls of the high school remembering the days back then and saw changes made in the building since 50 years ago. The classmates took pictures inside and outside the building.
There was a luncheon Saturday at the Dr. Joshua Frank Center of the New Zion Baptist Church where the memorial “The Empty Chair” is placed, honoring 19 deceased members of the class. Stephanie D. Prudhomme sang “Memories” as a tribute after Yvonne Edwards read a special Memorial reading prepared for the occasion.
Prizes were given to the person traveling the farthest. Milton Guillory from Santa Fe Spring, California was the recipient. The person having the most number of grand children was Elijiah Williams. Williams is the grandfather of 19.
Each class member attending the reunion was presented with a mounted framed copy of the class graduation picture and their diploma.
Present to help them celebrate homecoming was one of their class sponsors, Ardessie C. Francois, and the former band director Edward N. Francois. Those who could not make this reunion, one is planned in November of this year.
