And the winners are... Chat-A-While Social & Civic Club held a benefit raffle for the Geraldine Brown Memorial Scholarship. The raffle included: first prize, Mega Gift Baskets valued at $320; second prize was a 32” TV; GE Microwave was third prize; and fourth prize was a Cruiser Women’s bicycle.
Marion ‘Nootsie’ Sattler donated the Cruiser bicycle, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Smith donated the television, Jacqueline Vallare donated the microwave, and the Mega gift baskets was donated by all the Chat-A-While club sisters.
The drawing of winners was held Thursday inside the city hall lobby. Winners were Kaliyah Edwards, first prize; Zayla LaRue won second prize; Chris Savoy won third prize, and fourth prize winner was Venita Guillory.
Winners did not have to be present for the drawing, however, Vallare has asked that all winners to pick up their prize at the City Hall, Monday thru Friday, during office hours; and to present a valid ID.
A small reception was held along with the drawings courtesy of Chat-A-While members. The late Geraldine Brown’s daughter Denita Day of Baton Rouge was present and extended a thank you and a grateful appreciation of keeping her mother’s memory as a scholarship. Denita’s daughter India Bellard was awarded the scholarship this past year. “She attended Xavier in New Orleans as an undergraduate. She has currently received her master’s degree in financial business.
Another guest, Susie Rideaux Miller, the first Geraldine Brown Memorial scholarship recipient in 1976, gave a thank you and appreciation of the scholarship needed back then when she was applying for college, “My mother was a single mom, and we didn’t have much money. I remember how much it was needed.”
