Oilers open sub-regionals against New Iberia. Eunice Oiler Stuart Turner connects for a hit earlier this season.
“The Bullies of Yore” at library. The StoryTime hour on Wednesday was themed “Bullies of Yore.” The guest reader was Beth Padgett. She read “Jack and the Beanstalk” by Maggie Moore and “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” by Paul Goldone. The children played “Hot Potato” with golden eggs. They received Shrek stickers and were given Giant & Ogre coloring sheets. Their snack was Jack’s Magic Beans, better known as jelly beans. Door prizes of Shrek coloring books were given.
Oilers advance in Legion tourney. Eunice Oiler Zac Person grabbed the win against New Iberia Friday in the opening round of the American Legion sub-regionals held in Lake Charles.

Off-loading the MRI. A new Magnetic Resonance Imaging unit is unloaded at Acadian Medical Center on Monday. The 13,000 pound, $1.5 million tool is used to diagnose conditions in non-bony parts of the body, so called “soft tissue” such as brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The cylindrical device, in which a patient lies down, was manufactured by General Electric in Florence, S.C.
Fontenot plans to apply for EHS principal’s post. Mitch Fontenot sits at his desk at Eunice High. As assistant principal, he is expected to be in charge of the school when it opens on Aug. 12. Principal Margaret Leger has retired effective Aug. 31 and is taking earned vacation time.
