Library completes obituary index. Contrary to popular wisdom, not everything can be found on the internet. But starting this month, a chunk of Eunice history will be available for historians, genealogists and the general public. LSU Eunice’s LeDoux Library has finished converting “The Eunice News Obituary Index” to PDF format, and it will soon be available on the library’s genealogy page. LeDoux Library Secretary Janet Prudhomme looks over the database of Eunice obituary listings from The Eunice News; besides here is the only hard copy of the index, which Prudhomme helped type up 25 years ago.
Highland Teacher of the Year. Germaine West was recently named Teacher of the Year at Highland Elementary. West has taught for 35 years and a total of 22 years at Highland as a fourth-grade teacher.
Testing, testing... Terry Huval, a regular performer on its stage, and his son Andre begin the process of upgrading the Liberty Theater’s sound system. Their first step was finding bad spots in amplification and fixing or replacing them.
This fountain’s an eyeful. A fountain frozen Friday is a stark contrast to the tropical feel conveyed by Dr. Edward and Debbie Graul’s house in the background. After a continuing Saturday and Sunday, a warming trend is expected on Monday as the low soars to an unexpected 31 degrees.
Several Rotarians, including in front, Dr. Jerome Fontenot and Shirley Vige, were given a tour and demonstration of the Eunice Fire Department’s fire safety trailer.
Emily Johnson, 6, shown here riding a sheep in an event called “Mutton Busting” has qualified for the Mid-Winter Fair and Rodeo held in Lafayette Jan. 14-17. Her sister Madison also qualified for the rodeo. Their parents are Robert and Kasey Johnson of Eunice.
