As the date for Eunice Players’ Theatre’s Irving Awards narrows in to this Saturday night, the Irving Dancers and Singers are rehearsing their numbers for the entertainment portion of the ceremony.
The Irving Dancers are an annual tradition, with students usually representing local studios in alternating years. In celebration of EPT’s 50th season, students from both studios are included in this year’s production.
Students from Oliva Dodd’s Studio of Dance will be performing a tap number to selected songs from “Singin’ in the Rain,” a show EPT produced in 1995. Students from Michelle’s Studio of Dance are dancing to songs from “Annie,” a show EPT produced in 1989, which Michelle, her mother, and other family members were a part of.
The Irving Singers are composed of members of EPT who have participated in some of EPT’s 30+ musicals over the years, and the song selections will be from the same.
The singers include Melanie Soileau, Rob Soileau, Angie McBride, Taylor LaCalle, Darrel LeJeune, Bradley Credeur, Jeanne Eddins, Amy Maricle, and Sharon Blankenship, with Jimmy Broussard accompanying them on piano.
Songs will come from the musicals “The Apple Tree,” and “Godspell,” which were EPT’s first and most recent musicals, as well as “Cinderella,” “Oklahoma,” “Anything Goes,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Damn Yankees,” and more.
