Josi Lemelle named Junior High Parish Student of the Year

Eunice Junior High Student of the Year Josi A. Lemelle has been named Parish Student of the Year.
Lemelle is a 14-year-old eighth-grade student at Eunice Jr. High.
She is the daughter of Chad and Fran Lemelle.
Lemelle is actively involved at school and is a member of the cheerleading team, serves as captain; the History Club, Science Club, Youth Alive, Beta Club, serves as president; Accelerated Reader Millionaire Club, Student Council, serves as a home room representative; Track Team (Triple Jump), and was recently selected as a member of the EHS Varsity Cheer team.
Outside of school, Josi has been an 11-year student at Oliva Dodd’s Studio of Dance where she also assists with the teaching of classes. She has been a member of the dance studio competition’s team for eight years which has allowed her the opportunity to travel to various cities including Houston, San Antonio, Orlando, New Orleans, and Chicago for performance.
One of her proudest moments in dance was being selected for the lead role in The Creole Nutcracker in 2018.
Josi is a member of the New Zion Baptist Church where she participates in the Youth Choir, Sunday School, Youth Action Ministry, Angels of Zion Praise Dance Team, and Jr. Ushers.
She actively participates in many community events and spends time after school tutoring her classmates in math.
Lemelle was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the announcement and title of Student of the Year. She added, “I was surprised and called my dad right away. It’s just good to know that hard work pays off, and my activities and involvement at school is really appreciated by my peers and teachers.”
Lemelle advanced to the Regional level of the Student of The Year competition in February.
After speaking to Lemelle via a telephone call, she seemed excited about being named Parish Student of the Year. “It’s a delightful experience. I think I enjoyed the interview portion of the competition the most because I like to talk.”
Lemelle said she was prepared and focused at the Regional competition of Student of the Year. She added, “The Regionals were pretty much like the school and parish competition. I felt like I had prepared enough and had a good foundation.”
Lemelle will be a freshman at Eunice High in August and says she is looking forward to becoming a student at Eunice High.
Lemelle added that she plans to stay focused on her academics as well as become involved in extra curricular activities and sports at the school.
