Keep Eunice Beautiful, as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, conducted the Litter Index on Oct. 26 and 27.
The KEB Board members and volunteers first met up at 8:30 a.m. each day at the City Hall parking lot. Those board members include Herman Francois, Mark Dupre, Andrea West, Connie Thibodeaux, Erin Jones, Dale Francois, and Elvonia Reed.
The Community Litter Index is a metric to determine the impact of community appearance on quality of life. It is an annual requirement for good standing conducted annually, at approximately the same time each year. Keep Eunice Beautiful has been in good standing every year they have been affiliated, since 2012.
Visually assessing the community is an essential part of the process. Involving community representatives, Keep Eunice Beautiful has mapped the community with 50 sites over the various city wards.
The volunteers will “score” each area and an average will determine the Area score. All Area scores are averaged to arrive at an overall Litter Index score.
1 = minimal or no litter.
2 = slightly littered
3 = littered
4 = extremely littered
Averages in the past years have ranged from 2.5 to 1.85.
Donna Baltakis is the director of Keep Eunice Beautiful.
