Central Middle School sixth grade STEM (Science, Technology & Math) students performed a science technology project Friday. With the leadership and guidance of a guest speaker, Brittany Fontenot, in the classroom, students had the opportunity to experience as one student named, “Oobelck”, a solid, liquid transition mixture, and build a miniature bridge.
Fontenot, a St. Edmund graduate, and a chemical engineer at Coastal Engineering in Broussard, led exercises for the science students. A mixture of corn starch and water showed the students a solid, liquid transition.
Another project, students used 10 gum drops and 22 picks and a notebook, “learning how to build and distribute weight,” said Fontenot. Science teacher is Heather Melder, and principal at Central is Ranolviaun Landry.
